Centering community-rooted leadership to shift power and shape just economic futures.

The Futurist-in-Residence Program deepens our commitment to justice-centered economies by partnering with visionary leaders who embody our Theory of Change. 

Transforming our economic systems involves shifting power, capital, and the conversation itself, guided by those who have felt the impacts of injustice firsthand.

This one-year residency, hosted in collaboration with our Advocacy and Narrative teams, is a leadership development and engagement program designed to challenge the frameworks that maintain economic and racial inequity. As intersecting crises expose the failures of our current systems, the residency empowers leaders who are building imaginative paths forward.

Common Future’s inaugural Policy and Advocacy Futurist-in-Residence is Cheyenne Eete Kippenberger (Seminole Tribe of Florida)Cheyenne has nearly a decade of experience in public speaking and cultural advocacy. Through her work on mental wellness, civic engagement, and environmental protection, she is committed to empowering Indigenous communities and shifting public narratives. In this residency, Cheyenne will focus on Tribal and Indigenous sovereignty as a core climate justice strategy, partnering with Indigenous leaders and informing Common Future’s approach to this work.

Our Narrative Futurist-in-Residence is Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman, a doctoral candidate at Harvard Kennedy School studying public policy and economics. She is a doctoral fellow with the National Science Foundation, Ford Foundation, Center for Black Entrepreneurship, and the Stone Program in Wealth Distribution, Inequality & Social Policy. Anna is the editor of The Black Agenda: Bold Solutions for a Broken System—the first trade publication to exclusively feature Black scholars and experts across major policy areas. Her next book, The Double Tax: How Women of Color are Overcharged and Underpaid, will be published in September 2025. In this residency, Anna will guide the growth of our narrative platform @commonfuturists and support its expansion. Her efforts will bolster Common Future’s narrative strategy, uplifting economic frameworks rooted in justice and liberation.
